RIDGEWAY ROVERS Under-13s confirmed their status as one of the area’s finest sides as they beat off competition from across the country to win the prestigious SCI Mitre Ultimatch Tournament in Brean Sands, Weston-Super-Mare.
The Cheshunt Premier League side, who will represent Ryman Division One North club Ilford FC at U14 level next season, defeated teams from as far afield as Wales and Cornwall on their way to the title.
Ridgeway dominated the 11-a-side tournament from the outset, racking up 14 goals and conceding none as they put together a winning streak of seven games. That run came to a thrilling climax against a team from Taunton in the final.
Neither side could find the breakthrough during a tense affair until Harry Puncher popped up in the dying minutes to win it for the local side.
