ILFORD Golf Club's Captain Ray Stevens hosted the annual Captains Day last weekend. With fine weather and on course refreshments and barbecue, the large crowd certainly enjoyed the day.
27 holes were played with father and son combination Michael and Matthew Pinner winning the afternoons 18 hole stableford contest with 46 points.
Michael had a fantastic round, scoring an incredible gross seven under par round including nine birdies. Second place went to another father and son team with Dave and Stuart Curran finishing with 44 points beating Jamie Hagger and Russell Joseph into third spot.
The morning nine hole event was won by Mick Aylett, scoring 22 points on the back nine whilst Leon Berry scored 23 points to win the front nine competition. Ian Morgan took the nearest the pin prize on the 6th hole par 3 and Matthew Pinner won the longest drive competition on the 17th hole.
The Secretary’s Shield (scratch competition) and Taylorson Cup (handicap competition) were also held last week, with Mark Durrant running out winner in both competitions with a three under par gross 62 score.
Paul Richardson finishing runner up in the Secretary’s Shield with a gross 65 whilst Alan Atkins came 2nd in the Taylorson Cup with a nett 61.
The men’s Saturday Medal was won by Luke Richardson-Moore with a nett 60, German Singh finishing 2nd with a nett 62.
Heather Steel won the Ladies Saturday Medal with a 6 under handicap nett 59. Ex Ladies Captain Karen Curran finished runner up with a nett 63.
