WOODFORD WELLS senior ladies tennis team have won the right to represent Great Britain at next year’s European Club Champion-ships after they were crowned national Veteran Interclub champions.
The team of Pat Wire, Jane Taylor, Elizabeth Eden and Christine Jolly travelled to Dudley Tennis Centre in Birmingham to take on Barnt Green in the final of the prestigious competition, where they enjoyed a clean sweep, winning 3-0 to claim the title.
Their reward is a place at the European finals in Vale De Lobo in Portugal, where they will take on the very best teams on the Continent to determine who is the number one club side in Europe.
That tournament will take place in September next year.
The team had to overcome a number of opponents, including a highly-impressive semi-final win over Wimbledon, to reach the final. And once they got there they made the most of it, producing their best tennis to emerge victorious.
The first round of fixtures sees two players assume singles duty, while there is also a doubles match. Two more doubles matches would have followed to decide the winner in the second round of games, although the team from Wells had already completed the job by the time the first round had come to an end.
Sheree Campbell also played a key role in previous rounds.
