ORION’S runners produced a series of excellent performances at the London & Inter Counties South of England Cross Country Championships at the weekend.
Under-13 athlete Georgia Tuckfield was the standout performer on the day as she stormed through the entire field to secure both the London and South of England titles for both Orion and Essex.
That display enabled Essex to claim the gold medal, while it helped Orion occupy second place. Other notable runs came from Evangeline Foster in sixth, Serena Espeute (eighth) and Madeline Carr (ninth).
Conor Caplan was the pick of the boys as he won a silver medal in the U13s boys race. The team were also able to take second place overall, with Cheyenne Antoine-Chagar crossing the line just two places further back, Callum McLarty in eighth and Tom Hutchinson in 18th.
The boys U15 team of George Hoy, Ben Silverstone, Jesse Taylor and Alberic Hall gained bronze.
U17 woman Lauren Mac-Gregor was second in the London ev-ent, gaining a silver medal, and she was the first girl home for Essex in the Inter Count-ies.
On his debut for Es-sex, Auberon Hall was the second Essex boy home. He also won a bronze medal in the London event.
Other Orion runners who competed and performed well at the event included Sophie Grant, Amelia Hall, Casey Caldenk, Bethany Frost, Ella Nicholson, Matthew Boyce, Faz Bapikee, Jack Waller, Christopher Atkins, Nathaniel, Joseph Glynn, Ellis Ball, Alex Gordon and Daniel Penfold.
