Southgate Adelaide 2
Wadham 6 U14 AFA Cup
by Ron Hudson
An early goal from Marcelo T-M settled the nerves as Wadham made the visit to Enfield for this 2nd Round contest against Cheshunt League opposition.
The lead was short lived as the home side took advantage of some slack defending to equalise.
Southgate took the lead when Wadham appealed for off-side as the Forward scored easily leaving the defenders red faced.
Wadham had the chance to get back into the game as Robert R brought a fine save from the Keeper but this did not deter the visitors as Jack C levelled before half time.
The introduction of Goksal R and Thomas H at half time plus a few positional changes brought dividends as the visitors took advantage of the terrible weather conditions.
By this time we were dealing with driving rain and heavy winds which helped Wadham as they took the lead again with a good old fashioned drop kick from Keeper Joe C who found the impressive Jack C who lobbed the advancing Keeper from just outside the area.
A hat-trick for Jack C as his shot finds the net via the foot of the post to make it 4-2.
The tie was almost complete when Jack C chased a Thomas H through ball. The advancing Keeper's clearance cannoned off of the strikers back and into a empty net.
The sixth and final goal came from Naill J-H who found an empty net thanks to Cameron F-N who challenged the Keeper after a fine cross by Marcelo.
One last piece of action was at the other end when Srinivass B made a last ditch block on the line to prevent Southgate from making the score respectable.
Some notable performances as Wadham secure their place in the AFA Quarter Final from Man of the Match Thomas H, Keeper Joe C, Goksal R, Charlie C, Naill L-H, Marcelo T-M and Jack C.
Team: Joe C, Cameron F-N, James D, Naill J-H, Charlie C, Srinivass B, Robert R, Johnny E, Jack C, Jack S, Marcelo T-M, Jamie G, Goksal R, Thomas H, Jack D.
Belmont B 1
Wadham 4
(U10 Echo League Challenge Cup Round 3)
by C Pash
Third Round of the cup and Wadham travelled to Belmont B from the Trent Division on a cold and windy Sunday morning.
Wadham started strongly, scoring in the first minute from a neat four-man move, ending with Steven putting the ball in the back of the net.
Wadham continued to create chances with Demtri, Bradley and Rhys all going close.
Man of the match Dante was brought down in the box and had to come off injured, which resulted in a penalty to us.
Up stepped our captain Luke to smash home the penalty 2-0 to Wadham at half time.
In the second half Bradley took over from Kie in goal and with the hill in our favour we continued to press the Belmont goal with Riley, Louie and Kie all going close.
For the second time this season we gifted our opponents a goal from a goal kick where our keeper passed the ball to their striker who coolly placed in the back of the net.
This seem to give Belmont renewed confidence and they started to cause us some problems with Bradley having making a couple of good saves to keep us in front.
We finally found some composure and started to play the football we are capable of again with Kie scoring a well-worked third to put us 3-1 up. Kie finished off the scoring with a fantastic header from out side of the box to round off a well deserve red win 4 - 1.
Byron Red Star A 3
Wadham 1
(U9 Challenge Cup Round 3)
Ivan C scored his first goal for the Club as the Boys battled extremely hard and went in front thanks to Ivan's first goal.
Prior to this game Byron sat first in the top Division and eventually they were to strong in the end. 1-1 at half time and holding out very well until a late third goal killed the tie.
