OLD LOUGHTONIANS’ ladies battled to secure a morale-boosting 2-2 draw against second-placed Sevenoaks in their Conference East clash.

Anna Coppel gave the Chigwell outfit an early lead when she deflected the ball into the net off a well-worked short corner.

Sevenoaks’ new signing Cath Gillait-Smith produced a bullet of a shot to level the scores, before waltzing through Loughts’ defence for her second.

Good work from Elisa Filarmonico and Coppel created the chance for captain Miranda Weeks to get the decisive second goal to earn the team a point.

Earlier in the week, the ladies produced an inspired comeback but it was not enough to rescue a draw against Chelmsford.

A sluggish start saw the team fall three goals behind, but goals from Katie Richards, Miranda Weeks and Anna Coppel saw them claw back on to level terms. However, a late Chelmsford strike consigned Loughts to defeat.

The ladies will be competing in the England Hockey National Indoor Division One competition in January, which is to be held at Whitgift School.

Elsewhere, Old Loughts’ men endured a rare bad day at the office as they were beaten by strugglers Bromley & Beckenham.

Goals from Adam Wheater and James Stedman put the local side 2-1 ahead, but once Alex Jennings was shown a yellow card the roof caved in.

Bromley streaked into a 5-2 lead, and despite Jennings coming back on to reduce the deficit with two goals, it was not enough for Loughts.

Meanwhile, in East One South, Waltham Forest ladies came up short against Gore Court.

The Walthamstow side failed to make the most of their possession, Gore Court taking the lead early on before they doubled the advantage and ran out comfortable winners.
