THE HUNTERS became the hunted at the weekend, when Lee Valley Lions were ripped apart by Basingstoke Buffalo.
The Leyton-based team were put to the sword in the same fixture earlier on in the season, and they suffered a repeat performance this time around.
The Lions started well enough but it took only four minutes for Simon Beere to put the Buffalo on the scoresheet.
Despite stopping a number of shots, Ruth Cattell in the Lee Valley net stood no chance and by the time nine minutes were up the Lions were already five goals down.
Robyn Maby relieved Cattell of her duty during the game, but the torture continued, and the lions limped in at half-time eight goals down.
Maby faced a barrage of shots during the second period, and it is to her credit that she conceded just five of the 26 strikes that rained down on her goal.
The Lions finally had something to cheer about in the 38th minute when Lee Stobie found the net for a consolation.
Lee Valley headed into the final period with no chance of catching Basingstoke’s 12-goal lead, but they did at least manage to contain the opposition to just two additional goals, the final score standing at 15-1.
Lee Valley Lions play Chelmsford Warriors away on January 3 before returning home to face Invicta Mustangs on January 9, face-off 4.30pm.
