Woodford Wells C were put to the sword by Mossford A in West Essex Division One, but the team did manage to produce several impressive performances.
The game was up when Mossford opened up a 7-0 lead, but there was still pride to play for, and Ray Brown edged a thrilling contest with Mossford’s Colin Green. After trailing 2-1 in a very even match, Brown levelled with an 11-8 score in the fourth game.
And he carried that momentum into the fifth, earning Wells a league point.
Brown was involved in another titanic clash in the doubles with partner Tom Akigbogun.
The pair opened up a 2-0 lead but were pegged back by Mossford. However, they regained their form in the deciding game and eventually prevailed 12-10 in a nerve-jangling finale.
