WALTHAM FOREST Swimming Club’s Elliott Hill blew the competition out of the water at the London Swimming Winter Championships at Barnet Copthall.
The 15-year-old swimmer produced a series of stunning performances to claim two golds and a bronze medal from the illustrious event.
He smashed the junior 400m freestyle record on the way to his first victory, before claiming both the junior and senior records in winning the 800m freestyle. He rounded off a memorable tournament with a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle, emphasising that he will be one to watch for the future.
Even Hill’s remarkable haul was eclipsed by that of returning 2007 British 800m freestyle champion Alan Lindenberg, fresh from a spell in Europe.
He stormed to victory in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle events, setting a new record for the 200m en route.
Seventeen-year-old Alex Jameson took silver in the 50m free, while he also managed fifth and sixth-place finishes in the 100m fly and free events respectively.
The 4x100 free relay team won a bronze medal, while Poppy Hill, Oliver Burling and Tommy Willis also enjoyed strong swims.
Elsewhere, the Gators’ younger swimmers were competing in Canvey Island’s Open Meet, and they returned with an impressive 16-medal haul.
Josh Burcombe was the pick of the bunch, winning three golds and a silver. Reece Nicholls won a gold and a silver, while his brother Ryan took home four bronze medals. Pasha George returned with a gold and two silvers, Tosan Egodo won two bronze medals and Oliver Hayhow also came third.
