WANSTEAD Cricket Club captain Arfan Akram helped the Unicorns team to their first win in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition on Sunday.
Akram was given the nod to open the batting and made eight runs before he got a beauty from Will Owen that up-ended his stumps.
However, several strong knocks in the middle order propelled the Unicorns up to 231 from their 40 overs.
An excellent afternoon in the field followed against Glamorgan, leaving the team to celebrate their first win of the competition’s revolutionary new format.
“It was good to be actively involved and to beat a county made it that much sweeter,” said Akram.
