EPPING golfer Simon Khan failed to qualify for next month's US Open after missing out on a play-off at Walton Heath.
Thirty-seven-year-old Khan, who just the day before the qualifying event won the prestigious PGA Championship at Wentworth, fell at the first hole of a six-man play-off after the 36-hole event.
He fired a seven-under total of 133, leaving him tied with five other players for the remaining five spots for the right to play at Pebble Beach in the second major tournament of the year.
However, while his competitors all birdied the first play-off hole, Khan missed his 15-foot putt, allowing the other players to book their place at the US Open.
“I don't feel too bad because Sunday night was just so brilliant for me, but I was absolutely exhausted by the time of the play-off,” he said afterwards. “I was just running on empty and it was only the thought of going to Pebble Beach that kept me going.”
Khan will be on the reserve list for the tournament in June, and could step in if others drop out.
