FAIRLOP Powerleague newcomers Ross's Team sent shockwaves through Division Two of Monday's 7-a-side league with a thumping 6-2 victory over second-placed side CH Firm.

Having suffered the heartbreak of conceding a last-gasp equaliser in their first game of the season last week, Ross's Team rallied in impressive fashion to register their maiden win.

In what is becoming something of a trademark, the local side were quick out of the blocks, harrying their opponents at every opportunity and creating chances of their own.

Unsurprisingly, it was midfield maestro Charlie Casey who broke the deadlock before ten minutes were on the clock. The Loughton-based player took a touch before drilling an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net.

That was to be the catalyst for a stunning first-half team performance that sucked the life out of CH Firm.

Julian Dominique and player-coach Ross Davies were dominant at the back, with Bob 'Bobcat' Norris enjoying a quiet first period between the sticks.

Livewire Daniel O'Donoghue and wideman Lewis Board were a constant thorn in the Firm's side, and the latter managed to get himself on the scoresheet.

A pinpoint throw from Norris was instantly controlled by Board, and the winger finished coolly past the keeper.

Casey added another for his brace, while a deflection following a slick passing move yielded the next goal.

The tireless Steve Impey, deployed on the left of midfield for the contest, came close on several occasions to his first goal of the campaign.

But it was Dominique, with a rampaging run from the back, who opened his goalscoring account, putting the finishing touches to a smart one-two with O'Donoghue, who had cleverly thundered the ball against the back wall to rebound into the defender's path.

Not to be outdone, the team's hitman Andrew McNamara notched his first of the season with a neat finish from a tight angle, following a burst of pace that left defenders trailing in his wake.

The second half was a tighter affair, and Norris missed out on a clean sheet in his debut match when Firm's star player found the roof of the net.

A controversial second followed, with O'Donoghue adamant that he was fouled in the lead up to the goal.

But the damage had been done and Ross's Team ran out deserved winners.

Things will not get any easier for the team next week as their title credentials will be put to the test with a clash against league leaders Nishos, who have won 12 of their 13 games this term.
