INTERWOOD under-9s are gearing themselves up for the biggest game of the season next week in the London Cup final at Mile End Stadium.
The team of boys from Waltham Forest have made it through five rounds to reach the final of the illustrious competition. Cray Wanderers were first brushed aside 6-1, before Welling United were narrowly beaten 2-1. A thrilling 4-3 win over Samuel Montague was followed by a single-goal win at Elton Lions, before Moonshot were defeated 4-1.
The team, pictured left, is as follows (from left to right): Manager Hakan Houssein, Luke Ward, Trent Mahorn (captain), Albert Purssord, Tom Whitear, De Niro Pinto. Bottom: Marcus Phillip Painter, Ben Silva (GK), Tyrecce Powell-Davidson and Junay Houssein.
Meanwhile, Walthamstow Wolves U10s scooped the ELE League Blue Division title at the weekend, despite a 2-1 defeat to Enfield.
Terell Sterling scored the Wolves’ goal in the losing cause, but it was not to matter, as the title represents the first in the club’s history.
On the rugby pitch, Woodford U16s bulldozed their way into the final of the Essex Cup with a thumping 48-0 win over Chelmsford.
The boys will bid to lift the trophy for a fourth time after Liam Fitt got his team moving with a try from a scrum. Liam Sanderson also scored, and Cameron Dutch grabbed a third, to go with his four conversions. Matt Grogan and James Piras both went over before the break, and the scoring continued in the second period. Ian Bukenya, Sanderson and Ashley Somers all crossed the line. Brentwood are the opponents in the final on March 20.
