West Ham United full-back Joey O’Brien has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad due to a knee injury, the FAI has confirmed.
The 28-year-old was with Martin O'Neill's Ireland squad to face Oman in a friendly and then a Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia on Sunday, September 7, but has now returned to the Upton Park medical team.
Young Hammers goalkeeper Sam Howes was more successful though, making his debut for England Under-18s, who swept aside the Netherlands 4-1.
Howes featured for West Ham’s first-team in pre-season after winning the UEFA European Under-17 Championship with England in May.
Fellow Hammer Jamie Harney featured for Northern Ireland Under-19s as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Iceland.
