JAMES Tomkins and Freddie Sears put in accomplished performances but couldn't prevent England from getting their European U19 Championships off to a bad start.
The West Ham youngsters both played the 90 minutes - Tomkins leading the back line well and Sears looking lively up front - as the Young Lions went down 2-0 to Czech Republic.
Two second half goals from Tomas Necid proved to be enough for a deserved victory for the hosts.
England U19s are back in action against Italy on Thursday.
