HAMMERS defender Matthew Upson has revealed that the club have not been in touch with him about extending his current contract.
The likes of Scott Parker and Herita Ilunga have put pen to paper on new deals in recent weeks, and while speculation is high that a similar offer will be made to Upson, the centre-back insists he has yet to hear from the club.
Asked if he had been approached about a contract renewal, Upson replied: “No idea. I haven’t heard a thing. I believe other players may have been in touch but I may be next on the list, who knows. When that moment comes we’ll sit down and have a chat.”
The former Arsenal player stopped short of committing his future to the club, but he revealed he was enjoying his football under Gianfranco Zola.
He added: “I’m happy with the way things are going. I’m enjoying my football so we’ll see what happens.”
Upson has been a commanding presence at the heart of West Ham’s defence this season, and he is convinced that the entire squad are in the right frame of mind to mount a strong run-in to the campaign.
“(The win against Manchester City on Sunday) has lifted the belief again and just maintained that we’re on the right track and doing the right things,” he continued.
“He (Zola) has just told us to keep believing in what we’re doing. We analysed some things, worked hard and we’ve put it right.”
