WEST HAM'S England representatives had a game to forget during the team's 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Ukraine on Saturday.
Robert Green, seemingly established as Fabio Capello's number one choice between the sticks, was on the pitch for just 13 minutes after his game was cut short with a red card.
Striker Carlton Cole will also be disappointed with his contribution, as he made little impact from the bench.
It was Green who will feel most aggrieved, however. The Hammers stopper rushed out to meet Artem Milevskiy after Rio Ferdinand had allowed the ball to bounce, catching him out of possession. Green went to ground in attempt to win the ball but he succeeded only in bringing the striker crashing to the ground.
Milevskiy was arguably going away from goal, with Ferdinand hurrying to get back in position, but referee Damir Skomina decided it was a goal-scoring opportunity, and gave Green his marching orders.
Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko missed the resultant kick, but the decisive goal of the game did arrive 15 minutes later, when Sergiy Nazarenko's shot took a wicked deflection off Ashley Cole and flew past the helpless David James.
Matthew Upson was also in the squad, but he wasn't called upon by Capello.
