WEST HAM striker Carlton Cole will be out of action until the new year with a knee ligament injury.

It was feared Cole would require surgery to correct the problem, which could have kept him on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

However, Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola insists it will be 'weeks rather than months' for the forward, who has scored seven league goals this season.

Cole injured his knee in a clash with Burnley keeper Brian Jensen during the team's 5-3 victory at Upton Park last week.
