Bolton 3
West Ham 1
Premier League
WEST HAM were dragged further into the relegation mire after an uncharacteristic blunder from goalkeeper Robert Green gifted Bolton victory at the Reebok.
Chung-Yong Lee's first goal was cancelled out by Alessandro Diamanti, but Green inexplicably fumbled Gary Cahill's shot with the ball falling to the feet of Ivan Klasnic, who pounced to score from close range. Cahill's header made the points safe late on, leaving West Ham second bottom of the league.
The defeat was made even worse when Kieron Dyer, making his first start of the season, was taken off injured barely midway through the first half.
West Ham had not won at the Reebok in their last ten visits, while manager Gianfranco Zola had not even won their during his playing days. So it was no surprise when Lee put Bolton ahead, lifting the ball over the on-rushing Green after exchanging passes with Klasnic.
However, some slick football led to the Hammers' equaliser soon afterwards. Guillermo Franco crossed for Collison, whose touch diverted the ball to Diamanti to finish.
But Green's error from Cahill's shot allowed the hosts to regain the lead, and the defender then made the win certain with a late header.
The defeat sees West Ham languishing in 19th place, two points from safety and just three points ahead of Portsmouth, who have a game in hand.
