WEST HAM face a fight on their hands to keep hold of defender Matthew Upson next month, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims Tottenham are preparing an £8million bid for the England international when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Spurs have long-term injury concerns over Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate and are keen to bring in reinforcements. It is thought Upson is at the top of Harry Redknapp's shopping list, and they believe they could land him on the cheap, taking advantage of West Ham's precarious financial situation.
The Hammers, who are in the middle of a takeover bid from former Birmingham City owners David Gold and David Sullivan, may also have to stave off another approach for Upson from Manchester City.
Mark Hughes' side have a defensive crisis of their own, with Joleon Lescott set to be missing for eight weeks through injury, while Kolo Toure will go away on international duty for the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.
City and Spurs are also thought to be monitoring Scott Parker's situation and may also be willing to make a move in the new year.
