WEST HAM co-owner David Sullivan has expressed his anger at Tottenham’s attempts to pry Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen from under their noses after the Icelandic international underwent a medical at Upton Park.
BBC Sport claim the former Barcelona forward has had his head turned by Spurs and White Hart Lane is now his preferred destination, following weeks of intense negotiations.
But Sullivan slammed West Ham’s capital rivals, insisting he thought a deal was already done. “We thought we had a deal and the player had even had a medical,” Sullivan told the BBC. “We then heard that Tottenham were trying to speak to the player.
“I can’t say I’m happy about it but I believe in karma and what goes around, comes around.”
Gudjohnsen is likely to make up his mind in the next couple of days.
Sullivan and David Gold, the other half of the ownership axis, have prioritised the attacking department in this month’s transfer window after buying a controlling stake of 50 per cent in the club last week.
It is understood that Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy will sign for the Hammers for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.5million. Gudjohnsen was the other name on the top of their wish list, while Manchester City’s Benjani Mwaruwari is also thought to have caught the eye.
