WEST HAM could make a bid for Celtic striker Scott McDonald, according to BBC Scotland.

It is understood Hammers representatives have had the Australian striker watched in recent games, and an offer could be forthcoming, following the club’s failure to land Monaco forward Eidur Gudjohnsen, who is set to be confirmed as a loan signing by Tottenham.

McDonald, who is currently recovering from a hernia operation, has an impressive scoring record with Celtic, managing 64 goals in 127 appearances.

The striker is desperate to secure his place in the Australian squad for the World Cup and could be interested in a move, as he has struggled to feature regularly under Tony Mowbray.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claim the Hammers have ended their interest in Manchester City frontman Benjani.

A deal for Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy does look to still be alive for West Ham, with a fee of £2.5million reported to be on the table.
