WEST Ham lead Ipswich 1-0 at half-time at Portman Road.
The only goal came after half-an-hour, Carlton Cole bundling the ball over the line from a couple of yards out after Luis Boa-Morte had seen keeper Brian Murphy parry his far-post header.
That was the Hammers' first chance of the game.
Earlier, Robert Green had denied Ipswich's Tamas Priskin in a one-on-one situation, though chances have been few and far between at both ends.
It has not been the most action-packed encounter.
West Ham skipper Matthew Upson lasted just 23 minutes, presumably due to an injury. He was replaced by Mark Noble.
