WEST HAM vice chairman Karren Brady has slammed striker Benni McCarthy for being ‘devoted to filling his belly rather than the net’ after the club this week agreed a deal to terminate his contract.
McCarthy left Upton Park with a £1.5m pay-off after an agreement was reached by both parties to end the unsuccessful relationship.
Brady admitted £5m had been wasted on the 33-year-old, who started just three matches and failed to score since joining from Blackburn last January.
Brady said: “Rather than the super scorer we hoped for we acquired a super size, a player devoted to filling his belly rather than the net.
“As time went by, he grew bigger and bigger and although he made an effort to slim down, he’d passed the waistline of no return.”
